Once upon a time is really not so very
long ago. Let us go back several years and cross the ocean to picturesque Austria - near the little town called Salzburg -to meet Maria.
If Maria seems somehow always to be getting into mischief, it's not that she doesn't try to be good.
She lives in the Abbey near Salzburg, and - because she wants very much to become a nun- Maria makes a real effort to be as solemn and obedient as the Mother Abbess and the other sisters expect her to be.
But Maria has music in her heart, and she very often forgets herself and is seen by the sisters waltzing on her way to Mass -or even singing in the Abbey.
Whenever she has the chance, Maria likes to go to her favorite spot among the beautiful foothills of the Tyrolean Alps where the hills - echoing joyfully the songs Maria sings- become alive with "The Sound of Music."
