The growing size and complexity of our country is making for a Congress that
meets the year around,
When I served in the House of Representatives, 1957-61
the average session ended around Labor Dav.
Prior to World War Il, Congress
frequently met for
onlv half the year.
The rest of the time Congressmen were
able to be in their States. Today,
the Congressman's job keeps him in Washington
most of the year. He must confine his visits home largely to weekends.
