The Vietnam war continues to be the most troublesome issue before the nation.
We now have committed about half a million U. S.
fighting men at a cost of
$2 billion each month.
More than 8
000 Americans have been killed, and the
casualty rate is rising. Our bombers have damaged the roads,
bridges and
bulldings of North
Vietnam,
but the other side has probablv done even more
damage to us by causing us to
spend resources on the war that otherwise would
have built new roads, hospitals, schools and
houses here at home.
The war
has
indir.
ectly
raised our taxes,
unbalanced our budget, inlated our economy,
and tightened our money supply.
