CHAINS - GENERAL
Check chain slack and alignment before starting the machine and after a few hours of operation. Incorrect slack and misalignment cause rapid chain and sprocket wear.
CHAIN SLACK
The correct amount of slack is essential to the proper operation of chain. Unlike belts, chain requires no initial tension and should NOT be tightened around the sprockets. Properly adiusted chain drives should permit slight flexure by hand in the slack strand of about 2 to 3% of the distance between shaft centers.
CHAIN MAINTENANCE
When chain is too tight, the working parts carry a much heavier load than is necessary and work much harder without delivering any more power than properly installed chain.
