There is still gold in the fabulous Feather River country- a golden heritage of the dreams, the schemes, the joys, the heartbreaks, the arrivals and the departures of those inquisitive pioneers who probed the deep, mysterious canyons and climbed to the very tops of the majestic, primeval hills.
Hidden in the history of the great watershed of the Feather are
hundreds of tales of high adventure and the singular experiences of pioneer life in the great wilderness. Only a few of those stories have been told. Many, many more await the telling.
In this work we have collected some of the stories of the legendary
sites that will be buried forever beneath the reservoir that will be formed by the Oroville Dam. Perhaps this effort will stimulate others to mine the unworked bonanza of history which exists in the craggy canyons of the Feather.
