General Braddock Bayonet Barron WI 1935 Minneapolis Journal Article AE7-N6

Old Bayonet Believed
In Braddock Defeat
Barron, Wis., April 1.-H. S. Com-
stock, Barron county judge, owns a
30-inch
rust
encrusted
bayonet
which he believes was used in the
wilderness defeat of General Brad-
dock's British army in 1755.
An early settler found the ancient
weapon about 20 years ago at the
bottom of Granite lake. It appears
to have been hand-forged, but if it
originally bore a
date or
inscrip
tion, this no longer is visible. Com-
stock believed that it was lost by a
band of victorious Indians returning
from
the battle with Braddock's
army.
