TEMPE, Ariz. -
Michael Booker was asked to
identify the turning point in Nebraska's 62-24 victory against second-ranked Florida in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowi. Booker smiled, which hardly set him apart from anyone else associated with Nebraska on the night of Jan. 2, 1996.
The Cornhuskers' players, coaches and fans were awash in those rare smiles that can only be elicited by winning back-to-back national championships.
"I'd like to think the turning point was my interception,"
Booker said.
To talk about a turning point in Nebraska's 38-point victory was a little like trying to keep the Cornhusker defense from harassing Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel. At best, such an outcome might produce a cliche such as:
"The turning point was when Nebraska showed up."
