By defeating Iowa State, 49-17, two weeks ago, the Huskers clinched their third straight Big Eight title and a third consecutive appearance in the Orange Bowl. The victory over Iowa State was one of Nebraskas most complete games of the season. The Huskers jumped to a 21-0 first. quarter lead and rolled to an easy victory. In the game, Nebraska rushed for 438 yards, its highest output of the season on the ground. That tot moved the Huskers to first in the nation in rushing and put them in position to win their third consecutive NCAA rushing title.
In the game, Nebraska junior 1-back Calvin Jones rushed for 208 yards and a touchdown. With that performance, Jones moved past Ken Clark unto second place on the Nebraska career rushing charts. Jones now has 3,071 yards in his three-year career and became only the 15th player in Big Eight Conference history to surpass the 3,000-yard mark.
