Her name was Agnes. And she wore anything but paint and powder. Instead of a smile she carried a scepter wrought by wind and rain. Her touch was disaster.
Coming up out of the Gulf a couple of weeks ago she got big play in the newspapers and on the air waves. But to Central Pennsylvanians she was somebody else's worry. She was going other places. And too, don't hurricanes hang along the coast?
But boom! The state got it. From one end to the other, parts of Pennsylvania were battered, lashed, flooded and para-lized. It was part of a five-state dance of havoc.
Harrisburg, York, Wilkes-Barre, Sunbury, Danville, Williamsport and Lykens. Take a map and pick a dozen communities and chances are you'll come up with nine or 10 which were brought to the edge of a watery grave.
