1969 Strike Zone By Bob Gibson Cardinals Baseball Pitching 1st Ed Vtg TD2
STRIKE ZONE! by BOB GIBSON
illustrations by Ron McKee and Ed Vebell
The rules for entry into the Baseball Hall of Fame include a period of time, several years, I believe, out of active competition. In his nine years in major league ball, all of them with St. Lows, Bob Gibson has run up a list of pitching records which would seem to make him a shoo-in at some future nominating time. But not for a while yet. He's young and the arm and the brain have never been sharper or in better shape. Witness the 1968 World Series and Bob's record 17 strikeouts in a single game. And the whole of the '68 season with the lowest earned run average (1.12) in the history of organized baseball.
Bob lives in Omaha (his home town) in the off season.
With him there, and in St. Louis during the summer months.
