1966 MKT Katy Railroad Aggiornamento Address John W. Barriger Kansas City SE4
My serious interest in railroads began in 1913 and
my railroad career in 1917. The time interval since
then gives me long seniority as an observer and student
of the railroad industry. Even in those early years I
gave
close attention to passing events within it, al
though then I did not understand their significance
But recollections of long past occurrences still remain
clear in mind and I am able to flash back onto the
screen of memory original impressions of many distant
but highly important developments. Such recollections
have helped me in later years to comprehend the im
pact and significance of the actions to which they re
lated, much more fully than I could otherwise have
done.
One of the most unfortunately decisive single epi-
sodes in railway history was
the twenty-six months
period of Federal control of railroads related to World
War I.
