THE FEED (note cutaway picture above)
passes through the rolls in over the stationary cutter bar, over which the knives on the cutter head cut it into small pieces. The stationary cutter bar is mounted on a frame held by wood brake pins, as a safety device, so in case a piece of iron gets into the knives these wood pins shear and the frame drops down, saving the knives and also allowing the iron to drop out of the machine. From there the feed drops down into the lower concave, where it meets and mixes with any grain which may be coming from the grain hopper. Then they both pass on down into the cylinder chamber and are ground together between the hammer and con-caves. When ground fine enough it passes through the screen as shown and the auger carries it to the blower. This auger keeps the ground feed from bunching up and carries the feed into the blower in an even, steady flow
