1955 Louisiana Acadian Handicraft Bicentennial Program Booklet St. Martinville AC9

The Acadian Craft Shop at Longfellow-Evangeline state park, St.
Martinville, is an excellent example of the Acadian architecture to be found in Louisiana's Teche Country.
The story of the exile of the origi nal Acadians from their homeland in Nova Scotia and their wanderings until they found a haven among the bayous of southern Louisiana has been made famous by Longfellow's epic poem,
"Evangeline. " But only recently have their descendants, the present day Aoadians, who still live in the pictur esque country where their ancestors established a home in 1765, again come into prominence.
The Acadians are now making a worthwhile contribution to the field of modern arts and craits.
