RADIANT PANEL HEATING IS 2000 YEARS OLD
.. • yet as modern as Tomorrow!
Several thousand years ago Korean noblemen built "Spring Rooms" in their dwellings. So-called because of their pleasant, spring-like atmosphere even on cold, damp days, the rooms had hollow floors under which fires were kindled. The hot combustion gases warmed the floor structure which became, in effect, a radiating panel.
The ancient Romans used similar methods to provide heat in their famous baths. Pleased with the results, they took the method to conquered England, but during the Middle Ages the system was forgotten.
Early in this century radiant panel heating was rediscovered by an English engineer who was delighted with the unusual comfort in one of the rooms in his house. He found chimney flues buried in one wall which provided an excellent source of pleasant radiant heat.
