Wine of Cardul.
WHILE visiting one of his parishioners, a number of years ago, Rev. R. L. McElree, a Cumberland
Presbyterian minister, was shown some herbs, and became interested in the following history which was told him:
THE STORY OF THE WINE.
During the early settlement of Tennessee an emigrant from North Carolina camped one night in North Georgia near an Indian village. During the night a daughter of the emigrant was attacked with violent pains in the abdomen. An old squaw, who witnessed the girts sutlering, went to her wigwam, selected some herbs, made a wine from them and gave it to the girl, repeating the dose several times during the night. Re-hief from pain followed, and a first appearance of menses resulted. The mother of the girl secured some of the herbs, and among them found some seeds which she planted, and raised more herbs from year to year, as did her descendants.
