We lived in Sledge, Missis-sippi, about 275 miles from Nashville, and WSM boomed right into Sledge. I heard the music and got hung up on it. As I got older, I sang along with the radio.\u003cbr\u003e\"My mother ordered my first guitar for me from Sears and Roebuck. It was a Silvertone.\u003cbr\u003eThere was no one out where we lived to show me how to tune it, so sat by the radio and tuned it straight across, E chord, and barred every change I made. I played guitar like that until started to record.
